The Left's War on Nostalgia

I saw this photo recently that evoked "dark nationalist feelings" in my soul. Its location, which I managed to find with a reverse image search, is Grays in Essex, a place I lived in for about three months in the early nineties and considered the most depressing place I had ever seen, and that was largely pre-diversity. The photo, taken in 1960, of a parade of shops that I'd estimate to have been built sometime in the 1930s is a snapshot of a very different England than we are being subjected to today. It is a photo of a well-ordered society, of a clean street with no litter. The only street furniture is a traditional red telephone box. No yellow lines hinder the owners of the four beautiful, British-made cars. The parade of shops itself is simply wonderful to my eye. All the shop fronts are original, and the signs are wooden, presumably hand-made and not plastic. They show British names: Cooper, Green, and Smith. Looking for Freedom in Berlin

I start my epic journey by train to Berlin today. Three trains will take me over about nine hours from St Pancras station. Will you join me? OK, los geht's. It was back in 1989 that the legendary David Hasselhoff was hoisted on a crane above the Berlin crowds to sing his song "Looking For Freedom" whereby the the wall, and indeed the whole Iron Curtain and Soviet empire crumbled before him, such was the power of his presence and the magic of his Chrismas light encrusted leather jacket. Anybody who offers an alternative reason for the collapse of the Soviet world is not to be trusted. I'm prepared to die on this hill. Election Ramble

The UK election is done and dusted, and as predicted by everyone and his dog, Labour won in a landslide. Well, it's more like a landfill, since they got about a third of the vote. Lord only knows what horrors Starmer and his team have in store for us, but I fail to see how they could be any worse than the Tories during their Decade of the Five Leaders. It is somewhat disappointing that they live to fight another day with the failure of the DR's Zero Seats campaign. There's still time for them to off themselves if they choose to go left instead of right, which wouldn't surprise me, given how out of touch they are. In France, Marine Le Pen was denied her victory by the abuse of democracy known as the Cordon Sanitaire, whereby all the "Liberal Democratic" parties openly conspired to rig the election.
